MAHY, Barry
In loving memory of Barry Mahy.
It is with deep sadness that we wish to share the sudden passing of Barry Mahy, who left us on 14th of February 2025. Barry was born on the 11th of February 1959 in Wairoa. Much loved eldest son of Alan and Betty. Brother to Colin and Graham. Father of Kimberley and Peter, Anna and Ben, Michelle and Tom. Grandad to Jakob and Sebastian. He will also be dearly missed by Marie, Cathy and friends who shared his life.
A private service will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA.
We would like to express our gratitude for the support and kindness shown to us during this difficult time.

VERSCHAFFELT, Eugene.
Died peacefully at the Hastings Hospital, aged 81 years.
Dearly loved husband for 60 years of Jill (nee Woolf). Treasured dad of Vicki and Barry Meates, Peter and Rochelle, and Simon. Adored Grandad of Neve, Hamish, Lucas, and Hayley. Loved brother of the late Theo and the late Gail, and Gary, and Jenny.
A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held at Old Boys Marist Clubrooms, Park Island on Monday 17 February at 1.30pm, followed by a private burial.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr Hamish Gibbs for his tremendous support, and a big thank you to the staff at A1 ward.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the NZ Cancer Society in Eugene’s name would be appreciated.

HELLYER, Dorothy Josephine Marie
Marie passed peacefully on 9th February, with her family by her side, in her 90th year. Reunited with her adoring husband Laurie, one month after what would have been their 69th wedding anniversary.
Oldest child of Wilfred and Dot Eddy (dec) of Napier. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of David and Karen, Stephen (dec), Debbie and Tony Ross, Judy and Felix Halkett, Linda and John McGurk, Bryan and Ngaire, Tracey and Eric Rangi and Ann-Maree and Mark Ormiston.
Loving Nana of Trevor, Rechelle, Jenna, Brent, Kelly, Brad, Lance, Tracey-Leigh, Matthew, Paige, Jarrod, Braedon, Melissa, Joseph, Luke, Daniel and Ryan. Doting ‘Great Nana’, ‘Nana Great’ and ‘Super Nana’ of her many great grandchildren. A cherished sister and sister-in-law of Short and Shirl Eddy.
A loved sister, sister-in-law, aunty, cousin, ‘Nana-in-law’ and friend. Our beloved matriarch is at peace and reunited with those she has missed. Thank you for everything – we love you.

Just for some Clarification
Our mortuary waste has ALWAYS gone into the Wairoa District Council waste water system, it has NEVER gone directly into the awa from us. We fully support the removal of mortuary waste from the current system and are actively working with the council to make this happen.
